Peltephilus ferox was a species of horned armadillo that
lived in Argentina in the
Oligocene epoch and Miocene epoch between about 30 million
and 20 million years ago.
Peletephilus had horns protecting its eyes, and thus,
(a genus of burrowing rodents popularly known as "horned gophers"),
is the only known horned mammal adapted to a fossorial
(burrowing, digging and underground) lifestyle.
